The e-commerce giant, Flipkart might have seen great highs and few other lows, but as of now the startup is flying at its highest. In the latest update, it has been revealed that the owners, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal have invested $1 million in a new Chennai-based electric vehicle startup. This new startup will be focused on developing high-speed electric two-wheeler vehicles suitable for the Indian consumers. Recently, on its “Big Billion Day”, Flipkart saw a plethora of criticism cast their way, however, the Bansals do not seem have been affected by it.
Flipkart is certainly one of the most successful Indian startups in today’s day. However, there are many more that have left a mark with the consumers across the country. Here are four other successful startups that launched in India:
Zomato
Based in Gurgaon, Haryana, Zomato Media Pvt Ltd is centered on restaurants and event-listings through its popular site www.zomato.com. Founded in 2008, the company has come a long way; last month it was revealed that the startup raised a $60 million funds, taking its total funding to as high as $113 million. The company was also awarded as the Startup of the year. The company has not only done well with the Indian audience, but is also growing outside of India at a fast pace.
Jabong
The fashion clothing and accessories site www.jabong.com dubbed under Xerion Retail Pvt Ltd is another successful startup that has now emerged as a giant in the e-commerce industry. In the financial year 2012-13, the company’s revenue augmented 50 times more than in the previous year, increasing its earnings to 202 crore rupees. Launched in 2012, Jabong is doing extremely well with the Indian audience.
BookMyShow
The Mumbai-based online ticketing service (movies, music fests, plays, etc) website www.bookmyshow.com is one of the fastest growing startups in the country. It has been reported that the company raised a total fund of rupees 150 crores, assessing the value of BookMyShow at Rs. 1000 crore. This online booking site was founded in 2007.
Freshdesk
Founded in 2010, the Chennai-based customer support software provider, Freshdesk is undoubtedly one on the most prominent startup in the country today. About six months back, Freshdesk CEO was heard saying that he did not want to reveal the revenue of the company, but it has been estimated that the company values somewhere between $150-200 million. Freshdesk also has the backing of big international names like Google and Tiger.
